February 18th
marks Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten Season - the forty days,
excluding Sundays, prior to Resurrection Sunday. Lent has traditionally been
marked by penitential prayer, fasting, and alms-giving. Some churches today
still observe a rigid schedule of fasting on certain days during Lent,
especially the giving up of meat, alcohol, sweets, and other types of food.
Most
Christian churches that observe Lent at all focus on it as a time of prayer,
especially penance, repenting for failures and sin as a way to focus on the need
for God’s grace. It is really a preparation to celebrate God’s marvelous
redemption at Easter, and the resurrected life that we live, and hope for, as
Christians. The brochure has been prepared to assist you in observing
a "Holy Lent" and may be downloaded by clicking on the link below. The forty days will expire should the Lord grant you and I the
grace of each new day, however, will it be a "Holy Lent"? That will be
determined by our approach to the forty days. I encourage you to utilize the
attached brochure as you journey through this season as a means of discovering a
deeper communion with God.

Dillard University Concert Choir
On Saturday March 14th, 2015, one of America’s premiere choral groups, the Dillard University Concert Choir will be performing in Houston at 7 pm at the Metropolitan CME Church, (located at 8955 South Freeway at Reed Rd -288@Reed) for the 5th consecutive year as a part of its national tour.

On March 22nd, the Stewardesses of
Metropolitan are challenging EVERYBODY to wear “RED” coordinated outfits to
church and to bring your guests and tell them to wear RED, too. The
Stewardesses want to fill up this sanctuary with the color RED on the 4th
Sunday in March. Oh, yes! And there’s a little more. The
Stewardesses will be circulating a “Go Red Patron List” challenging each member
to GO RED by contributing a MINIMUM of $150. Let’s all join in and help
the Stewardesses with the GO RED Patron List and by wearing RED on Sunday,
March 22nd.
